Sheer Joy Blog
A cricket team on the road is a bit like a traveling circus. And the logistics involved are quite involved – kit bags , practice equipment, lounge bookings and very specific seat bookings. All this has to be done seamlessly and the team has to be as rested as possible when reaching the next destination.
I tend to be the only person who is happy – for two reasons. One, there is a certain Mathew Joy (one of Kerala’s finest) who is just so efficient that I never have to worry. Two, this is easy compared to moving 40 tons of television equipment around the country – which is what the IMG crews have to contend with.
Most cricketers are quite happy to sign an autograph or pose for a photograph or two – but tend to lose it around the 20th. We were in an Indigo flight to Jaipur and had players in the first few and emergency rows. Very few passengers went to the toilets at the rear, why miss a chance for a quick autograph and photo op. One particular gentleman crossed 5 times after which our security head Zunaid politely inquired on the state of his bladder. Mostly though, the players take it in good humor. The rules to remember while asking for either – 1) please ask politely, it's his image after all 2) Please do not wake him up if he has dozed off 3) Please never click a picture or ask for autographs while a player is eating.
Brett is here and so is Shakib, and it was really good to see them quite fresh and rested. They should be raring to go today - and the IPL interest in Bangladesh will suddenly skyrocket. We also had another piece of good news - Eoin was chosen as one of Wisden's 5 cricketers of the year - a signal honour indeed at his age. Eoin did not even mention it to the rest of the team, but our analyst Srikkanth found out on the internet. we had a simple ceremony in the dressing room yesterday and every body was really happy for him - as Eoin has just been an amazingly positive influence on the team.
